The CentOS Project

What is CentOS ?

CentOS is an Enterprise Linux distribution based on the sources from Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Starting with CentOS 5 each version is supported for 10 years (by means of security updates, previous versions for 7 years). A new CentOS version is released approximately every 2 years and each CentOS version is regularly updated (approximately every 6 months) to support newer hardware. This results in a secure, low-maintenance, reliable, predictable and reproducible environment.

How do we Build CentOS Linux ?

How does the CentOS Team build and the CentOS QA Team test the CentOS Linux releases? Here is an explanation for building the upcoming CentOS Linux 8 process with an included time line estimate.

CentOS consists of you and me.

Special Interest Groups

The CentOS project is organised in different Special Interest Groups (SIGs) to encourage more people to volunteer and improve all aspects of the project. You can become part of a SIG as well by starting or joining the discussion with fresh ideas. Why not ?

CentOS in the Media

We collect all the articles in the online media that mention CentOS. If you happen to find an article discussing CentOS, please consider adding it to the list.
