CentOS aims to be 100% compatible with the upstream provider. Anything that is certified with RHEL "should work" on the equivalent version of CentOS.
- Usually the relevant application is not officially supported on CentOS by the application vendor, and if a CentOS user encounters a problem, may be asked to reproduce the problem on a supported platform (e.g. RHEL).
- However, due to user demand, many vendors have started including CentOS as an officially supported platform (and ironically, in some instances even list support for CentOS but not RHEL).
Currently Supported
Citrix XenServer
Citrix XenServer supports CentOS 4 x86 and CentOS 5 x86 and x86_64.
Scalix
Scalix version 11.4 supports CentOS.
Skype
Skype does not have a download for RHEL at their Skype for Linux download page. However, they have a download for CentOS, which also works with RHEL.
- Note: there is an FC5 RPM, which will not install without "--nodeps" due to a dependency on qt4-x11, which is not included in RHEL / CentOS 5.
Pontential/Pending Support
VMware Workstation
VMware Workstation 6.5 (currently in Beta) includes support for CentOS as a host and guest operating system.
- Operating systems supported in VMware Workstation may end up being supported in other products like VMware Server or ESX Server.
Zimbra
CentOS is currently not officially supported by Zimbra. There is a request to officially support CentOS.
