Mailing Lists
CentOS Mailing Lists Posting Guidelines
The primary language of CentOS lists is English. If you don't speak English, there are several non English mailing lists, see below.
Members of any CentOS list are expected to maintain a reasonable standard of netiquette when posting to the list.
Quoting should not exceed that which is necessary to convey context, this is especially relevant to members subscribed to the digested version of the list.
This of course means no top posting either. Edit your replies, if people need more context they can go back themselves.
The use of HTML is strongly discouraged. Signatures should preferably be short and to the point, and those containing 'disclaimers' should be avoided where possible.
Attachments should be avoided whenever possible. It's better to put it on the interweb and provide a link. There is a size limit of 40k on the main mailing lists.
Vacation messages, and other automatic replies, should be carefully configured to avoid replying to list postings. Offenders may be excluded from the mailing list until the problem is corrected.
Main Lists
- This is the main mailing list of the CentOS project - and normally the list to ask your questions on (or answer questions of others if you can!)
- All announcements regarding CentOS are sent via this list - announcements being security advisories or release infos. This mailing list is "read only" and has not very much traffic. If you're running a server and are concerned about security, you probably want to read this list.
This list is a discussion list about the current and further development of CentOS. If you have questions regarding CentOS, please use the main centos list - this is strictly about development. See also the Contribute page
This list is for discussions about this wiki and CentOS related documentation. See also the Contribute page
- This list is for people running a CentOS mirror - or for those who want to do it. Again: No general questions about CentOS here, ask in the main list.
- This list is for announcements of mirror status, mirror issues, pending releases and so on. It's a very low traffic list for people running a CentOS mirror. This is not a discussion list, use the CentOS-mirror list for discussion about public mirrors.
- This list for discussion about Events, Gatherings and (LUG) Meetings where CentOS is or should be presented. Other promotional issues like marketing (and marketing materials) are also discussed here
- This list is for discussion of virtualization on CentOS, as well as discussion related to the virtualization SIG.
