The VIP program aims to acknowledge and further promote a set of people who represent large chunks of the communities, and do stellar work for, on behalf of and further the interests of CentOS, the project and CentOS Linux, the Linux distribution
This would then include:
- Moderators
- IRC
- Mailing List
- Forums
- Language and region specific interest group co-ordinators
- People who represent CentOS regularly at Expo's and Shows and Events
- People who we consider to be influential in the ecosystem
- This does open the door to having Captains who in turn do other stuff, like run a non centos repo or work on a CentOS connected resource - like mirrors (!), since they then essentially feed the ecosystem ( but we need to indicate and have some level of appreciation for the people who do really good stuff, not just everyone ( might need quantified and a tangiable scale setup )
- People who do stellar work, either in bugs.centos.org or CentOS qa ( as examples, but not limited to those venues )
- People who have done work in other areas that feedback in exceptional ways to the ecosystem ( eg. CentOS used in the medical field / apps )
Requirements
To read, and agree to the Captains code of Conduct (XXX: ToDo, but basically do no evil, and use best practises as much as possible )
- To Vote on bringing on more Captains
- (participation should not be optional, people who stick around and just do something that is otherwise completely non public have really no need to be flagged as Captains )
- Subscribed to the Captains mailing list ( public, but only writeable by existing Captains )
Expectations
- To attend a monthly Captains review ( or something else, and maybe not a monthly only but fortnightly maybe ? )
- To promote and extend the CentOS Community
- To display their status as CentOS Captain prominently, either in signatures or on websites
- To agree to be listed as a CentOS Captain on a specific page ( initially wiki.c.o, but ideally on the main website longer term )
- To be a bridge between the project and the ecosystem / community
Privileges
- Status mark that they can use liberally
- Captain term of 1 year, to be renewed automagically (by whom?)
email address FirstnameLastname@captains.centos.org
- Automatic membership of wiki.centos.org/EditGroup
( once our voip services are back online, every Captain can have a voip extention as well at <number>@voip.centos.org )
- There is no external gateway, so its only usable over voip
- it is possible to setup conf rooms, with toll free dial in from multiple countries
