How to Mount an NTFS Filesystem on a CentOS 5.3 LiveCD
1. Wget and install the RPMforge repository.
- cd /users/centos/Desktop
wget http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el5/en/i386/RPMS.dag/rpmforge-release-0.3.6-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm
- rpm -i rpmforge-release-0.3.6-1.el5.rf.i386.rpm
2. Install the packages.
- yum -y install fuse fuse-ntfs-3g dkms dkms-fuse
3. Check the kernel version
- uname -r
- ls /usr/src/kernels
- NOTE: If the kernel versions match, then go to Step 6.
- NOTE: The CentOS 5.3 LiveCD kernel version is 6.
4. Remove the current kernel development source and headers.
- rpm -e --nodeps kernel-headers-2.6.18-128.1.16.el5.i386
- rpm -e --nodeps kernel-devel-2.6.18-128.1.16.el5.i686
- NOTE: The current kernel development version is 16 (was 14).
5. Wget and install the older kernel development source and headers
- cd /users/centos/Desktop
- rpm -i kernel-devel-2.6.18-128.1.6.el5.i686.rpm
- rpm -i kernel-headers-2.6.18-128.1.6.el5.i386.rpm
6. Configure, make, and install the fuse kernel module
- cd /usr/src/fuse-2.7.4-1.nodist.rf
- /configure --with-kernel=/usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-128.1.6.el5-i686
- make
- make install
7. Verify fuse kernel module and change permissions
- modprobe -v fuse
- chmod a+rw /dev/fuse
8. Verify the NTFS disk drive can be mounted
- mkdir /media/c_drive
- mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sda1 /media/c_drive
- umount /media/c_drive
